"Dazzling, honest, and raw, this author's voice was appealing, revealing, and bold. From the introduction page, where we are introduced to Flicka, we know we're in for one "wild ride." This hot, hot, hot sizzler with the most alluring love triangle plot was inspired, putting tepid contemporary romance novels to shame. Flicka oozes a sardonic wit with her deep passions, as the story careens from side to side into delicious chaos--passion, love, wit. I loved it!"

Reeling from the Movie Romance
Reviewed on August 31, 2025, for The Entangled Hearts Series-Flicka Book #1
Verified Purchase-Amazon

This book was fun from start to finish. You'll fall in love with Flicka, a free-spirited young woman who is not afraid to unleash her passionate side. Two main lovers, the film producer she is partners with, whose touch she cannot resist, and her handsome, funny movie star, whom she calls "D" throughout the book. She doesn't reveal his name until the end, which was a fun surprise. (Spoiler alert, don't look at the last page.) She doesn't want to lose either man as her feelings for both become increasingly serious, so she finds ways to have it all, so to speak, without either one knowing about the other. Hats off to Flicka for that incredible feat, until the paparazzi threaten everything, and other twists in the plot are apt to expose her secrets: a well-written, fun journey and a very, very, very, sexy book, if you like that sort of thing. I did!

Fun and Original. "Let them drink beer!"

BEER POUR is the most original story in a general fiction book that I have come across. I will admit, I am a fan of this writer, having read her first two romance novels from earlier this summer. BEER POUR has a romance subplot, but that is not the story. The story is about a beer-pouring competition, designed by the Vice President of the United States, as a fun way to announce and advertise to the America public a significant economic deal. Little did the VEEP know that filmmaking can be just as full of treachery as politics. As the contest between two bitter rivals in advertising gets underway in Hollywood, hidden secrets spill out from all angles and characters that shift relationships and threaten legacies and international diplomacy. Surprising twists abound. This book states that it is a satire, and the exagerrations of the film and political worlds are funny. The characters that Sophia Jane Hayden creates are always fabulously drawn with completely relatable flaws. There's a clear villain in this book, unlike her other books, and you'll learn a lot about the actual techniques for making a beer commercial. This book was GREAT!

Cory and Jacky's BIG Beer Adventure

Never in the history of advertising has so much drama surrounded a couple of Japanese beers. Diplomatic destiny brings together a diverse group of amusing characters from Hollywood, Washington, DC, and Tokyo. They organize a beer-pouring contest between Cory Osaka and Laird Killebrew, advertising's preeminent commercial directors, to determine who will direct the commercials for two Japanese beer brands. This unorthodox endeavor is a giant diplomatic accomplishment for the book's charming, lonely, and pot-smoking U.S. Vice President, Jacqueline Farmington. She spent six years advancing her economic juggernaut with the 95-year-old Emperor of Japan to bring the multi-billion-dollar beer brands to America, while hoping "that old man didn't die first." As the heated competition for the best BEER POUR gets underway, diabolical rivalries, secret corporate revenge plots, political maneuvering, and filmmaking insider realities emerge.
As the lights, camera, and "ACTION" continue on competing stages, the Vice President is in hot pursuit of a handsome executive producer after confiding to his sister, "I have a better chance of being handed the launch codes than getting laid in my position." The VEEP's lovable, loyal Chief of Staff, Chet, is a fantastic character in the novel, incredibly adept at keeping the VEEP and everyone else happy. A man steeped in all things political, Chet learns that film and politics are not all that different. Even a minor subplot between the two Secret Service agents, Bryce and Lucy, is hilarious. Bryce and Lucy each want a crack at Laird Killebrew, the villainous director in the contest and the meanest, nastiest man in Hollywood, practically daring him to come within an inch of their beloved VEEP. As his awful personality takes over the two-man competition, the question becomes: how can Laird Killebrew be stopped from destroying U.S./Japanese relations? That is the dilemma. This book is as clever as fiction can get, with the plot exploding toward its surprising resolutions. Satisfy your thirst for interesting characters and plot development with this terrific book! I'll leave the reviewee with two ("in-cider" words): APPLE JUICE!

Touching Love and Friendship

Another book by Sophia Jane Hayden that I loved. She writes characters so beautifully. Here, Mable and Julia's relationship is a complicated friendship, and it is nuanced in a way that is truly well done. As they fall in love with other people, they keep coming back to their abiding friendship. I really loved this masterful, lighthearted, and amusing tale of love and friendship. The author really knows how to write complex and interesting characters! Mable's love interest, Daniel, the global rock star sensation, exudes sweetness, and I would love to see a follow-up to their love story. I'm ready to read more about Mable, Julia, and Daniel in case the author reads this, ha! I bought another one for my friend.

– Reviewer on Amazon for Entangled Hearts/The Fifth Seduction, Book 2 (Paperback)

"In this humorous novel, Hollywood rivals, a throwback to commercial advertising, and cutthroat politics take center stage. Vice President Jacqueline Farmington is brokering a diplomatic agreement with the Emperor of Japan as two Japanese beer brands expand stateside, while rival directors Cory Osaka--the first grandchild of the Emperor--and ultra-competitive Laird Killebrew duke it out in a week-long competition to see who will land the commercial rights. As Jacqueline navigates diplomatic relations with the Emperor and oversees the advertising project, she draws close to the handsome and charming Paul Wexler, Laird's producer. Despite Jacqueline being married, romance soon blossoms between the two, as they navigate a riotous thrill ride of international political agendas, contentious rivalries, and lively drama.

Hayden (author of Flicka's LOVERS) nails behind-the-scenes Hollywood antics and underhanded business dealings, highlighting the lengths people will go to come out on top. Often referenced as an "idiot psychopath," Laird regularly throws tantrums and berates his staff, though his behavior is glossed over in favor of his "unique talents as a commercial director." In contrast, Cory spends his time carefully analyzing the Japanese beers in question, aware that his status as the Emperor's grandson will afford no special favors. The amusing villainy that ensues entertains, and Hayden regularly fleshes out the mechanics behind commercials, giving readers an inside glimpse of what really goes on in this billion-dollar industry.

In keeping with the novel's rollicking flavor, some over-the-top characters function more as comic relief than pivotal actors, landing themselves in situations--like Paul's sister, DeDee, smoking a joint with Jacqueline while the "VEEP" extols her brother's manly assets--that may induce an occasional eye roll in readers. Hayden's excessive use of exclamation points softens the emotional impact of the narrative, but the strong female protagonist and real-world politics infused with witty developments will keep readers entertained.

TAKEAWAY: Witty take on political diplomacy and cutthroat brand marketing.

– BEER POUR Booklife Review for Publishers Weekly

Hayden presents an erotic romance novella about a 30-something TV executive's love affairs.

Mable LaCroix is an executive that works on an American reality TV show. She's living the dream with a career that's "fascinating, financially rewarding, and prestigious." She's worked alongside a woman named Julia Frank for the last five years, who's attracted to Mable — something that seems to come up at least once a year. Mable isn't typically attracted to women, but in this case, she makes an exception: "I knew Julia would be the only woman I would ever become intimate with." Initially, all seems fine, with no strings attached, and she has another casual relationship going on at the same time with Daniel, a famous British rock star with whom she hooks up in Australia. Further down the road, when all three are in Paris, Julia becomes jealous of Mable's affection for Daniel. To complicate matters further, the press thinks Mable is dating Daniel's sister, Grace. What will things be like when Mable returns to Los Angeles? Hayden's jet-setting adventure moves quickly from place to place, with Mable graphically recalls her steamier activities along the way. As such, it's an entertaining read throughout, even if the details of Mable's professional life don't always leap from the page; for example, the protagonaist unnecessarily explains the showbiz aspects of reality TV: "Our program needed considerable fake tensions built between contestants in case there wasn't enough actual tension." Nevertheless, Mable's personal life has its share of engaging surprises as the story speeds to its quick conclusion.

A well-paced, globetrotting romp with a protagonist that works and plays hard.
